ABOUT ME

image0.jpeg

Hi y'all! I am Jenny Ducker, a Middle School teacher in Upstate South Carolina. I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the US in 2015. My undergraduate degree is in Chemistry for teachers with a minor in Mathematics teaching. After I graduated from college, I thought of going to a medical school, but I fell in love with my students and could not see my life not being in a classroom as a teacher. I have a Master's degree in Mathematics teaching from the De La Salle Univerity helped me develop my love in educational research. I am currently working on my doctor of education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, focusing on literacy under the American College of Education. I see myself as an instructional coach, interventionist, or curriculum coordinator in the future.

I have been married to my husband Shane for almost five years, and we have a wonderful three-year-old son, Waylon. When I have free time, I love reading books by Kristin Hannah, walking on the trail, and enjoying family time. During schools breaks, I love working on house projects, especially PAINTING!!!! I recently turned my dark wood kitchen to a farmhouse gray-white theme to brighten up one of the places in the house where I spend most of my time.

I know it is too far to plan, but I told my husband that I would love to work in a daycare or a nursing home when I retire (probably 28 years later). My husband thinks it is weird that I would love to be working in those places after I worked for half of my life. I love to work with toddlers, and I grew up with my grandmothers, and I enjoyed the company of older people.

MY PICK
OF THE MONTH

Unknown.jpg

Since I started my EdD program, I do not have much time to spend reading. I love to read books as it helps me develop my English language comprehension. I am part of a book club of retired teachers, and they keep me accountable that I get to have time for leisure reading.

As preparation for the warmer weather, we decided to read the book Summer Island by Kristin Hannah. I haven't read the book, but as I type this entry I got an email from the local library that my book is ready for pick-up! I am excited to read this book and share my thoughts with the book club. What is more exciting is I can share it to more audience through my blog!!!

Anyway, here's some teaser from the book:

Years ago, Nora Bridge walked out on her marriage and left her daughters behind. She has since become a famous radio talk-show host and newspaper columnist beloved for her moral advice. Her youngest daughter, Ruby, is a struggling comedienne who uses her famous mother as fuel for her bitter, cynical humor. When the tabloids unearth a scandalous secret from Nora’s past, their estrangement suddenly becomes dramatic: Nora is injured in an accident and a glossy magazine offers Ruby a fortune to write a tell-all about her mother. Under false pretenses, Ruby returns home to take care of the woman she hasn’t spoken to for almost a decade.

Nora insists they retreat to Summer Island in the San Juans, to the lovely old house on the water where Ruby grew up, a place filled with childhood memories of love and joy and belonging. There Ruby is also reunited with her first love and his brother. Once, the three of them had been best friends, inseparable. Until the summer that Nora had left and everyone’s hearts had been broken. . . .

What began as an expose evolves, as Ruby writes, into an exploration of her family’s past. Nora is not the woman Ruby has hated all these years. Witty, wise, and vulnerable, she is desperate to reconcile with her daughter. As the magazine deadline draws near and Ruby finishes what has begun to seem to her an act of brutal betrayal, she is forced to grow up and at last to look at her mother–and herself–through the eyes of a woman. And she must, finally, allow herself to love.
